'Chappaqua Blooms' Flower Shop Springs Up Downtown

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – It looks like Chappaqua residents won't have to wait for warmer weather to find fully bloomed flowers. A new flower shop, Chappaqua Blooms, will hold its grand opening Saturday, April 6, from 1 to 6 p.m.

Store owner and Chappaqua resident Suzanne Lodge is putting the final touches on her storefront, which is located at 83 S. Greeley Ave. between EZ Sports and Bank of America.

Lodge called the grand opening’s timing at the beginning of spring “a happy coincidence.”

“I’ve been working on getting everything ready since last September, and it just worked out that the store is ready while everyone is in the mood for spring,” she said. “It’s quite appropriate.”

Lodge, who has lived in Chappaqua for six years, previously worked as an attorney in New York City and took classes at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx.

“It’s an upgrade if you ask me,” Lodge said of the transition of practicing law to operating a flower shop.

A combination of passion and convenience gave her the idea for her store. Even when she was an attorney, Lodge often found herself handling flowers for her friends' and family’s parties.

“It’s the classic story of staying home with the kids and figuring out what to do next,” she said. “So I decided to do one of those ‘Oprah things,’ where you make the thing you like the thing you do.”

With Chappaqua Blooms, Lodge gets to do just that. The flower shop will cater to residents in need of flowers both on impulse and for larger events.

“I want it to be a local flower shop in the vein of a classic French flower shop, where you can just come in and pick something up,” she said.

“Hand-tied bouquets and home décor will be our specialty. But I’m also really excited to get involved in local school theater productions and the prom season.”
