Cutting and coloring hair with her sister, Zamira Cutra, handling the business side of things, only makes going to work each day that much sweeter.

The two, who live near each other in Yorktown Heights, own VaZa Salon, a four-year-old high-end business in the former Ossining National Bank building. The name, in fact, is a nod to the first two letters of each other names.

The two pride themselves on offering coloring and cutting for women and men with all hair types.

"We keep up with the latest techniques and trends," said Cutra.

"For our color line we use a premium ammonia-free permanent hair color line with oil based technology, nourishing for all hair types."

"We highlight hair with a free-hand painting French technique called Balayage. Whether you want to be blonde or have a subtle soft sun-kissed look, we can achieve it with our creative free hand painting technique,” added Tana.

Curly hair is also a specialty.

Tana, in fact, has taken many a seminar at CurlyGirl mecca Devachan Salon in Manhattan and understands the dry cutting technique for curly and wavy clients. To keep her staff just as informed she sets up yearly hands-on educational sessions.

Each stylist is carefully selected and trained with Cutra doing the initial interviews and Tana following up with a hands-on demo.

The two have their routines and their separate tasks.

"Val is the artistic director while I'm the business director," expained Cutra.

"The balance of our different strengths definitely benefits our business.

"We talk to each other during our morning and evening commute which gives us a chance to work cohesively on a daily basis and stay connected to nurturing our staff and clientele."

"It's easy to work with my sister because we read each other’s minds and often say the same things," added Tana.

The family bliss extends to their husbands who, together, own Hudson Valley Steakhouse in Yorktown Heights (see earlier Daily Voice story here).

VaZa Salon is located at 137 Main Stt., 914-800-9137, www.vazasalon.com. Check the salon's Facebook and/or Instagram for up to date news.
